In 2018, he received the IEEE Power System Dynamic Performance (PSDP) Committee Prize Paper Award for the paper “A Dynamic Mode Decomposition Framework for Global Power System Oscillation Analysis,” authored by E. Barocio, B. C. Pal, N. F. Thornhill, and A. R. Messina. The year 2013 brought him the IEEE Power Engineering Society, Power System Dynamic Performance Committee, Technical Committee Working Group Recognition Award for his contributions to the “Identification of Electromechanical Modes.

” His significant contributions to the analysis of electric power systems led to his election as a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2012. He has held a distinguished academic position as a Professor in the Graduate Studies Program in Electrical Engineering at Cinvestav del IPN since 1997.
