Research Experiences

He has extensive research experience, having served as a Junior Research Fellow at the ICAR-National Institute for Plant Biotechnology, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Delhi, India, from October 2023 to March 2024. In this role, he actively engaged in a cutting-edge research project titled “Identification, Molecular Genetics and Functional Characterization of Key Resistance/Susceptible Determinants for Sclerotinia Stem Rot Disease in Oilseed Brassica.” He utilized Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), molecular cloning, molecular breeding, and CRISPR-Cas technology to develop resistant cultivars of oilseed Brassica against various pathogens, with a primary focus on combatting Sclerotinia. Besides his research responsibilities, he instructed MS and BS students, managed projects, oversaw laboratory setup, and coordinated training programs for external participants, including farmers.

Previously, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the ICAR – National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics, Bengaluru, India, from December 2022 to September 2023. He significantly contributed to the Peste des Petits Ruminants Eradication Program (PPR-EP) by evaluating vaccine efficacy and developing ELISA methodologies for accurate disease detection. Using sophisticated techniques such as western blotting and SDS page analysis, he conducted in-depth protein sample examinations, aiding in vaccine formulation. He also played a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing vero cell cultures for experimental purposes.

He has been involved in various plant science research endeavors, contributing to projects such as the molecular dynamics of nematicidal biomolecules produced by bacterial endophytes against Meloidogyne spp. and Pratylenchus spp. infecting banana, the role of bacterial endophytes and nematicidal biomolecules in mediating immune responses in tomatoes, and the analysis of antimicrobial biomolecules against Fusarium oxysporum using molecular docking and simulation approaches. Additionally, he worked on the development of a CRISPR-Cas system targeting starch branching enzymes in rice and optimized Cordyceps militaris fermentation for enhanced cordycepin production and investigated its antifungal potential through in silico and in vivo analysis.

He completed a 6-month Rural Agriculture Work Experience (RAWE) from SKUAST-K in 2020. From 2020 to 2021, he served as a part-time Biology tutor at Iqbal Coaching Centre in Bandipora, India, and volunteered as a tutor and guide for students in his city, both online and offline. Furthermore, he completed a 3-month internship in the Pan African Bioinformatics Network (H3ABioNet) Introduction to Bioinformatics course (IBT-2022), successfully completing modules on databases and resources, Linux, sequence alignment theory and application, multiple sequence alignment, genomics, and molecular evolution and phylogenetics.

He obtained his Master of Science in Biophysics and Physiology from Moscow State University in 1966-1969. Subsequently, he pursued a Doctor of Philosophy degree at the same institution, specializing in Biophysics, which he completed in 1969. Later, between 1981 and 1983, he earned his Doctor of Science degree in Biostatistics & Ecological Modeling from the P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology, USSR Academy of Sciences. His academic journey reflects a comprehensive exploration of interdisciplinary fields, spanning from biophysics to ecological modeling, showcasing his dedication to advancing scientific knowledge and understanding.

Throughout his career, he has held various positions that reflect his expertise and dedication across different fields. From December 1969 to April 1978, he worked at Moscow State University, initially as a Laboratory Assistant, progressing to Junior Scientist, and eventually Senior Scientist. During this time, he played a pivotal role in developing the concept and structure of marine ecological monitoring services for the Government Committee of Meteorology and Environmental Protection. Additionally, he led coastal expeditions to The White Sea from 1973 to 1976 as part of Moscow State University’s initiatives.

Moving forward, from May 1978 to January 1981, he served as a Professor and Deputy Chairman of the Physics-Chemical Biology Department at Irkutsk State University, where he lectured on topics such as General Biophysics, Biophysics of Complex Systems, and Biological Systems Theory. Assoc Prof Dr. Bojana Petrovic  distinguished academic and researcher in the field Precision Agriculture. She has held positions at various institutions, contributing significantly to the field of precision agriculture. At the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, she served as an Assistant Professor from March 18, 2021, onwards. Since July 2005, he has held the esteemed position of Professor at the School of Geography and Resource Science at Sichuan Normal University, where he has made significant contributions to academia. His expertise encompasses a range of teaching activities, primarily focusing on postgraduate courses such as “Understanding and Analysis of Remote Sensing Image Science.” Additionally, he imparts his knowledge to undergraduate students through courses like “GIS Spatial Analysis,” “GIS Principles,” “Territorial Planning,” and other related subjects. Throughout his tenure, he has been dedicated to fostering a comprehensive understanding of geographical and spatial sciences among his students, leaving an indelible mark on the academic landscape.

Throughout the years, he has actively engaged in a multitude of research projects, showcasing his commitment to advancing knowledge in various domains. From 2014 to 2017, he spearheaded the National Natural Science Foundation of China Project titled “Maintenance Mechanism of Land Ecological Security in Chengdu Plain based on LUCC Disturbance” (Project No. 41371125), delving into the intricate dynamics of land use and ecological security. Subsequently, from 2018 to 2020, he directed his efforts towards the Humanities and Social Science Planning Project of the Ministry of Education (Project No. 17YJA850007), contributing valuable insights to the intersection of social sciences and education.

In the earlier years, his involvement in key projects at Sichuan Normal University included the 2013-2015 Key Cultivation Project, “Ecological Security Research of Chengdu Plain Based on LUCC” (Project No. 13ZDL03), and the 2014-2015 Sichuan Provincial Department of Education Project, “Research on Ecotourism Development Model of West Sichuan Plateau Based on GIS” (Project No. LYC13-11). His diverse expertise also extended to national initiatives, such as the National Science and Technology Major Project’s special topic on “Water Pollution Control and Treatment” (Project No. 2009ZX07106-004-01-02), specifically focusing on the spatial and temporal distribution of water resources and salinity in the Bosten Lake Basin. In recognition of his notable contributions to the field, he was honored with the third prize of the Sichuan Science and Technology Progress Award in 2011 for his exemplary project titled “Research on Urban Land Use Change and Its Ecological Environment Effect Based on RS & GIS.” Beyond his research endeavors, he actively engages in social contributions by serving as a review expert for various international journals, demonstrating his commitment to advancing scholarly discourse and maintaining rigorous standards within the academic community.

Moreover, he has assumed significant roles in shaping academic and scientific landscapes. His responsibilities include serving as an evaluation expert for the Degree Center of the Ministry of Education, China, contributing to the assessment of educational standards. Additionally, he has lent his expertise as a science and technology plan evaluation expert for the Provincial Department of Science and Technology in Sichuan Province, playing a pivotal role in evaluating and shaping regional scientific initiatives. Further showcasing his multifaceted involvement, he serves as a technical expert for territorial ecological restoration support at the Provincial Department of Natural Resources, Sichuan Province, underscoring his commitment to environmental sustainability and ecological well-being.
