Early Academic Pursuits

Dr. Raymond Tyoakaa Iorhemen’s academic journey is grounded in a strong foundation of chemical sciences, beginning with a B.Sc. in Pure Chemistry from the University of Jos, Nigeria, in 2010. His undergraduate project, focused on the spectrophotometric determination of paracetamol, demonstrated his early inclination towards analytical methodologies. Pursuing further specialization, he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Chemistry with Distinction in 2015 and an M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry in 2018, both from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. His postgraduate dissertation involved a significant environmental application—remediation of toxic elements in local clays. Currently, he is a doctoral candidate at ABU, Zaria, set to complete his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in December 2024. His thesis explores the development of novel cholesteryl chloroformate-based metallogelators for oil spill remediation, positioning him at the intersection of innovation and environmental stewardship.

Professional Endeavors

Dr. Iorhemen’s career reflects a seamless blend of academia, research, and industry. He has served as a part-time lecturer since 2017 and became a full-time lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, Ahmadu Bello University in 2023. His teaching covers foundational chemistry courses, including general and physical chemistry, as well as specialized courses on the chemistry of glass. His earlier roles include serving as a practical chemistry demonstrator and contributing to the academic progression of students through mentoring, grading, and laboratory supervision. Outside academia, he worked as a Quality Control Analyst at ECWA Central Pharmacy, where he applied analytical techniques to ensure pharmaceutical quality. His industrial grounding was strengthened through his internship at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), providing experience in regulatory and safety assessments.
