Ms. Keru Duan  distinguished academic and researcher in the field  Blockchain application. Keru Duan is a Ph.D. candidate in the research group on Supply Chain and Operations Management at the Birmingham Business School. She obtains a master’s degree in 2020 from the University of Manchester, and also completed her undergraduate studies in the United Kingdom. Prior to her Ph.D. journey, Keru held a two-year tenure as a Senior Business Decision Analyst at Tesla’s Greater China Headquarters. In this role, she was responsible for formulating vehicle production plans and export strategies for the Greater China region, which included setting sales targets and managing logistics operations.

Keru’s current research focuses on the integrated application of blockchain technology, intelligent supply chain management, and closed-loop supply chain management. In the academic year of 2022-23, she actively participated in the pedagogical work of the business school, serving as a seminar tutor for postgraduate level students in the ‘Digital Business Strategy & Data Analysis’ module. This experience has enriched her teaching skills and methodologies.

At present, Keru is dedicated to publishing her research. She is finalizing a systematic literature review that focuses on the application of integrated blockchain technology in supply chain management. During her time as a Sustainability Intern at the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan, Group of Sustainable Development, she actively engaged in various initiatives aimed at analyzing and promoting the sustainability of bamboo and rattan resources. Working closely with environmental scientists, she contributed to the evaluation of sustainability practices in this sector.

Additionally, she took on a leadership role in supervising new interns tasked with assisting local farmers in restructuring their farms. She played a pivotal role in developing profit models for these farms, which included strategies for crop cultivation, livestock breeding, and farm tourism. Her efforts resulted in the successful design of business proposals, leading to securing a significant investment from angel investors.

With the obtained start-up funds, she executed pilot experiments, procured necessary resources such as seeds and agricultural tools, and initiated marketing campaigns. Through her dedicated work, she significantly contributed to local farmers’ recovery from losses, ultimately leading to a substantial increase in profitability, amounting to nearly 5,000 RMB per person per month.

He earned his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) during the period of Fall 2011 to Fall 2020, under the guidance of Professor HyunWook Park in the Image Computing System Lab. Tariq Mahmood – Network Resilience

Tariq Mahmood  distinguished academic and researcher in the field Network Resilience. His research interests primarily focus on working with deep learning methodologies for integrating and analyzing extensive collections of multi-modal medical images, along with object detection/tracking. His research career began in 2013, with a focus on wireless sensor networks, specifically underwater sensor networks, and security on smartphone platforms, particularly Android. He worked on usage control and attestation for this immensely popular smartphone software stack.

During graduation, he successfully completed and delivered machine learning-based applications. Subsequently, his interests have evolved towards the development of machine learning and deep learning models to aid medical image analysis for tumor detection. He possesses hands-on experience working with radiology images and applying various deep learning techniques, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), time-series analysis, feature extraction, reinforcement, and supervised/unsupervised learning.

Currently, he holds the position of Assistant Professor of Computer Science (Part-time) at Prince Sultan University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, starting from August 2023. Simultaneously, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Education in Lahore, a role he has held since December 2022. Within this position, he has taken on additional responsibilities as the Coordinator of the Information Technology and Computer Science Department in Pakistan.
