Sam’s professional journey, marked by his strategic approach to integrating IoT and Big Data in farming operations, showcases his dedication to innovation and excellence. Actively engaged in facilitating international research activities, he continues to make significant contributions to teaching, consultancy, commercialization, and scholarly pursuits, shaping the creation and dissemination of knowledge on a global scale.
Early Career and Leadership:
In July 2010, Sam was invited by a leading manufacturer of precision turned components to serve as General Manager. In this role, he led a team of 100 workers, overseeing the entire operation in Batu Pahat and successfully expanding the company’s operations into Vietnam. Under his leadership, the company experienced substantial sales turnover growth and achieved ISO 14001 and ISO/TS16949 certifications, reflecting Sam’s commitment to quality and environmental management.
Focus on the Vietnamese Market:
In March 2011, Sam shifted his focus to the Vietnamese market, stepping down from his roles at Nano Revival Technology and Nano Garden Nursery after eight years of dedicated service. Despite facing initial challenges, he managed to double the sales turnover of both plants in 2011 through the implementation of efficient management practices. Sam continued to drive organizational success until his departure in 2013.
Academic Pursuits and Innovations:
With over nine years of experience in listed companies and more than 14 years in the business world, Sam embarked on an academic journey with full sponsorship from the Ministry Of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE) for an Industrial PhD at University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). Beginning in June 2013, his research focused on Biomass Renewable Energy, Agricultural Light Sports Aircraft, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) integrated with a Crop Dusting Device and smart farming management system utilizing IoT technology.
During his five-year industrial PhD studies, Sam developed a diverse skill set, becoming a pilot, light sports aircraft designer, lecturer, researcher, and inventor. He collaborated closely with UTHM, fostering partnerships between industries and university departments through endowments, product R&D collaboration, and knowledge-sharing seminars.
