Mrs. Ka Yung Cheng distinguished academic and researcher in the field Data Integration.
Educations📚📚📚
She pursued her education at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel in Germany, where she has been working towards a Doctor of Medical Science (Dr. rer. medic) since 2021. Her doctoral thesis, titled “An Image Annotation Pipeline for Body Area, Modality and Laterality (IMBODY),” focuses on developing advanced methodologies in medical imaging. Prior to this, she earned a Master of Science in Information Technology from Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe in Lemgo, Germany, from 2019 to 2021. Her master’s thesis, “Developing a Deep Learning Metal Classification Method for Prompt-Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA),” showcased her expertise in deep learning and its applications in material analysis. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Technical Informatics from Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe, completed between 2017 and 2019. Her bachelor’s thesis, “Implementation and Qualification of a Machine Learning Library for Performing Image Processing Tasks in an Industrial Environment,” reflects her strong foundation in machine learning and its practical applications in industrial settings.
Experience
She has been a Medical Informatics Researcher at Universitätsklinikum Schleswig Holstein in Kiel, Germany, since January 2021. In this role, she focuses on training and evaluating deep learning models to classify medical images by modality, laterality, and body parts using SNOMED CT terminology. Her responsibilities also include collecting and curating medical image datasets to SNOMED CT codes, integrating pharmacological data from a data lake to a clinical data repository using Talend and Java (Spring Boot), indexing medical metadata in Elasticsearch, and transforming clinical data to international standards like FHIR and openEHR. Prior to this, she worked at Phoenix Contact in Blomberg, Germany. From April 2019 to March 2020, she served as a Software Developer, where she performed image preprocessing for controlling the plastic housing of products and created ETL jobs using PowerBI to develop a matrix of stored products. Before that, she completed an apprenticeship as a Software Developer at Phoenix Contact from 2016 to 2018, where she analyzed functional and technical requirements and developed applications in COBOL.
