Dr. Ingrid L. Chen began her academic journey with a strong foundation in psychology, earning her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego (2007–2010). This early exposure to human behavior and mental health laid the groundwork for her future pursuits in medicine. Her passion for psychiatry was further nurtured at Stony Brook University School of Medicine, where she obtained her Doctor of Medicine (2016–2020), developing a robust understanding of clinical practices and patient-centered care. These formative academic years shaped her interest in integrative approaches to mental health and community-focused care.
PROFESSIONAL ENDEAVORS
Dr. Chen's professional career reflects a commitment to both clinical excellence and community involvement. She completed her Psychiatry Residency at Kaiser Permanente Oakland (2020–2024), serving as Chief Resident and actively participating in the Research Track. Her progression continued as she became an Associate Physician with The Permanente Medical Group and took on leadership responsibilities as Director of Community Engagement in the Psychiatry Residency Program. Dr. Chen has also worked with respected organizations including PAVIR as a Research Associate (2011–2013), Kaplan as an SAT/ACT teacher (2013–2015), and UCSD Moores Cancer Center as a Community Health Specialist (2016–2020), showcasing her interdisciplinary expertise and broad social engagement.

Her editorial fellowship project with Academic Psychiatry (2023–2024) explored Psychodynamic Psychopharmacology for Asian American Immigrants, addressing cultural nuances in treatment. She led and contributed to multiple projects during her residency, such as Valproic Acid for Delirium Management, Intravenous Ketamine for Treatment-Resistant Depression, and a demographic trends analysis of psychiatry residency applicants, earning both first and co-authorships in the process.
